Everyone knows the old Greek saying, “Things go to Hades in a hand basket.” It seems to be true to our personal and collective health in several surprising ways. Sometimes it is the environment and our own actions that conspire against us.

Other times, the daily habits we have forged are revealed, not very beneficial or even potentially harmful. The following new findings are not intended to become sensationalized, but to elucidate some unexpected health trends and inspire some thoughts about solving them.

10 Is your glass of red wine still so beneficial?

In addition to the associated snobbery, red wine has been touted as white wine’s healthier siblings. But does the hype match science?

Researchers performed a meta -analysis to find out. They analyzed 42 studies comprising nearly 100,000 participants and found that there is no difference in cancer risk between red and white wines. This finding can at least partially struggle with the resveratrol claim, which says that Red Wine’s high content of resveratrol (a truly potent antioxidant) is particularly good at mitigating cancer and other disease risks.

Interestingly, although there was no significant increase in the overall risk, the consumption of white wine was actually linked to an increase in skin cancer risk. In addition, and strange, women seem to be more at risk. So just drink the wine you like, whether red, white or green – yes, that’s a real thing.[1]

9 Daily aspirin probably doesn’t protect your heart

Washing a low dose aspirin down your swallow every single day is regular health advice, but maybe it shouldn’t be because new research is considering daily aspirin.

And by considering, it’s more like debunking. At least for people who do not have a history of heart problems, such as a heart attack. Regular people without a history of heart disease should now avoid the daily low-dose aspirin for cardiovascular health because the risk outweighs the benefits.

The logic behind the daily dosage of aspirin was that it thinning the blood and therefore reduces the risk of blood clots that can lead to potentially deadly cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks and stroke.

So for people without a story about these health problems, the increased risk of bleeding (bleeding) is too great to justify the daily aspirin habits. As always, the best option for uncertain people is to consult a (real) doctor.[2]

CHX, for example, reduced the occurrence of fan-associated pneumonia, although “CHX use was also associated with increased mortality.”[3]

7 Spinal injections for low back pain do not work

As long as new research throws out frequent treatments that seem to do something, researchers are now also advising spinal cord injections for low back pain. Any kind of injections, whether steroidal, painkillers, anti -inflammatory or a combination.

It is a shame that they do not work because there are not many treatments that facilitate back pain, the most common global cause of disability. This scourge affects up to 20% of adults, and in 2016 it (along with neck pain) accounted for nearly $ 140 billion in healthcare costs.

For those with chronic back pain, defined as three months or longer, the possibilities may be limited. Given the new proof that injections are not worth risking, at least sick people can avoid exacerbating the problem or relying on the false hope of an ineffective treatment option.[4]

6 Pet allergies are increasing

Anyone with a multi -legged companion knows that their unclear friend’s health is as important as theirs. But unfortunately, it seems that pet allergies are increasing. Trupanion, a pet insurance company, saw a significant leap in allergy requirements on insured pets: an increase of 45% in 2023 compared to 2019.

The insurance company nationwide adds that allergies are at the top of the list of pets veterinary visits. These allergies can be very annoying to pets, leading to inflammation and itching – and this can lead to more serious problems, such as skin infections. The reason is uncertain. It may be that the detection speeds are increased, rather than actual allergy propagation.

5 Microplastics can aggravate the global hunger

4 These pleasant scents can aggravate indoor air

Not to cause alarm, but indoor air quality can be worse than outdoor air quality for those of us who use lots of fragrant products, such as fresher, wax melts, cleaners and other things that give off comfortable-lit chemicals.

New research shows that these objects release a lot of nano-size particles that are hospitalized in your lungs. These nanoparticles also respond with ozone, catalyze chemical transformations that create “small molecular clusters” that further develop, pollute the air and then enter our respiratory systems and spread to other organs.

The specific health consequences of these objects are not entirely clear. In general, however, they are described as “significant” and not in a good way. So for those who want cleaner indoor air, you can avoid scents.[7]

3 The children become more short -sighted

Children all over the world are becoming more and more short -sighted as cases rise with significant rates. Short -sightedness or myopia is caused by an elongated eyeball that does not properly focus in -depth light. Unfortunately, it can be more common than ever: 40% of children and adolescents are expected to be short -term by 2050.

According to research, the cause is multifold, but two main factors play. First as always genetics. Myopian parents tend to produce myopian children, both literally and ugly. Secondly, children absorb much more screen time instead of being outdoors to play balls and what not.

This new research from Korea analyzed 45 studies, including more than 335,000 individuals. It suggests that every hour of daily screen time is associated with an increase of 21% in myopia risk on average. Of course, no study is perfect and you probably shouldn’t throw out your TV. Still, it wouldn’t hurt the kids to run a little outside. Just look for traffic.[8]

2 Regular old dust storms become toxic dust storms

We humans are of the desert. Ever since our species emerged and built the first civilizations in North Africa and the Middle East, we have been beaten by sandstorms. Now these sandstorms are full of man -made pollutants, which also become indoors and increase internal toxicity.

As a population, all sorts of extra bourgeois tools are built in deserts. In addition to urban buildings, these structures include transport hubs, landfills and wastewater treatment facilities. As a result, desert -dusted light, small, toxic particles and spread them across continents and into homes.

Such storms are common across the global dust belt that spans China, the Middle East and North Africa. These storms can be hard, high 5.5 miles (8.6 km) high, whipping 45 km per year. 1 A new problem with air pollution

Science often finds new ways that things are bad for us. Air pollution is obviously harmful to long -term health, but a recently published study shows that some types of air pollution immediately attack us and unexpectedly by disturbing our focus and surprising emotional abilities.

In the study, 26 participants performed cognitive tests before and after being exposed to particle -shaped substance (PM) contamination for one hour in the form of light smoke.
